Tachikawa (立川市, Tachikawa-shi) is a city located in the western portion of Tokyo Prefecture, Japan. As of 1 March 2021[update], the city had an estimated population of 184,383 in 93,428 households, and a population density of 7600 persons per km2.[1] The total area of the city is 24.36 square kilometres (9.41 sq mi). Tachikawa is located on the Musashino Terrace of western Tokyo, approximately 40 km west of the center of Tokyo. The Tama River flows between Tachikawa and the neighboring city of Hino. The Tamagawa-jousui (Tamagawa Aqueduct) flows north of the city, with a great promenade on both banks. Tokyo Metropolis
