Population: 241,479 (2021 Census);[7] 234,044 (2010 Russian census);[2] 225,399 (2002 Census);[8] 190,793 (1989 Soviet census).[9]As its population increased, spurred by the construction of Nizhnekamskneftekhim petrochemical industrial complex, Nizhnekamsk was granted city status in 1966.
