Kariya (刈谷市, Kariya-shi) is a city in central Aichi Prefecture, Japan. As of 1 October 2019[update], the city had an estimated population of 153,162 in 66,751 households,[1] and a population density of 3,040 persons per km2. The total area of the city is 50.39 square kilometres (19.46 sq mi). Kariya is situated in central Aichi Prefecture, on the Mikawa side of the border between former Owari Province and Mikawa Province. The area is flat and well-watered, with an average elevation of less than 10 meters above sea level. The city has a climate characterized by hot and humid summers, and relatively mild winters (Köppen climate classification Cfa). The average annual temperature in Aisai is 15.7 °C. The average annual rainfall is 1578 mm with September as the wettest month. The temperatures are highest on average in August, at around 27.9 °C, and lowest in January, at around 4.4 °C.[2]
