Bukan

Bukan (Persian: بوکان, romanized: Bukân and Kurdish: بۆکان, romanized: Bokan)[3] is a city in the Central District of Bukan County, West Azerbaijan province, Iran, serving as the capital of both the county and the district.[4] At the 2006 census, its population was 149,340 people in 32,588 households.[5] The following census in 2011 counted 170,600 people in 43,269 households.[6] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 193,501 people in 56,944 households.[2] The city is situated east of the Siminarud river. The whole county is populated by Shafi'i Kurds who speak Sorani Kurdish.[7]
