Baranagar is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in North Kolkata region.[24][25] It is home to the Indian Statistical Institute, an institution of national importance devoted to the research, teaching and application of statistics, natural sciences and social sciences.[26] Baranagar Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama High School is one of the oldest and most renowned schools in Baranagar and North Kolkata.[27][28]
