Olives and Plates Wits Club and Conference

The restaurant is situated at the Wits University. I went with my brother and we entered through the main university entrance, later we realized there is an easier way to access the restaurant which is directly off Empire road. The restaurant is at bottom part of the university and is partly indoor and partly outdoor. It is a really beautiful setting , surrounded by beautiful cape Dutch style buildings which are part of a university alumni club or something like that. Olives & Plates is a well known brand and they have a few locations including at the upmarket Hyde Park shopping center. The setting was 10/10. Service was slightly slow and it felt like I had to constantly get up to call the waiter when I needed something. It was relatively bush for a Wednesday lunch time. The food is brilliantly presented, decent portion size and great quality. I ordered the potato and carrot mash as a side to my grilled hake. I also asked for the small side salad, which really was a small side salad if a bit of lettuce and a few small tomatoes. I was genuinely shocked when we received the bill and realized that they charge R65 for this tiny side salad. Also R33 for a cold drink, and R90 for a piece of cake ; I understand it is a good restaurant but after seeing these prices on the bill it left me with a very horrible feeling to the extent that I felt ripped off and would be reluctant to return.

The place has a great breakfast and tapas menu, I wasn't impressed with their coffee although they have good quality coffee beans from Beanthere which is a + Had a egg Benedict and a salmon bagel which were a killer, great minimalist design, sat on the side walk table and enjoyed the great Sunday atmosphere. Highly recommend for breakfast!!!

Restaurant has a beautiful ambiance. I tried snails for the first time with them, they tasted bland for me. I had duck for the main and it was hard, the meat wasn’t falling off the bone. Enjoyed their chocolate fondant as dessert. I loved the dimmed lights and you have to make a reservation as the place might be packed when you want to go. Five star dining place.

An absolutely beautiful restaurant. The aesthetics are amazing and the service was fantastic. I did not make a reservation but I was warmly welcomed. Had a Sunday solo date and the staff made me feel comfortable. The food was tasty and reasonable priced, really enjoyed the hummus. Prawns were a bit disappointing but nothing to cry about. Dessert was delicious. The music and ambiance of the restaurant were perfect. I think couples would enjoy this place. The wine cellar has lot of options and it caters for different tastes and price ranges. Amazing!

This restaurant is located within the Melrose Arch hotel, in an area popular for great restaurants of all cuisines. I visited on a Friday night there was only one other couple dining there. The internal decor was superb and really smart. The table was large and laid well with everything spotlessly clean. I was initially left a little disappointed by the menu since it wasn’t the most varied and I wasn’t left spoilt for choice. However, there’s a good number of wines available for reasonable prices and this was served quickly and professionally at the start of the meal. The chicken soup starter was incredible! The perfect amount of spice gave it a good kick, nice pieces of meat and a delicious small slice of toast topped with cheese and herbs. The portion size was also good and is one of the best starters I’ve had in recent years! Some small bread rolls were also served with a couple of dips which were really tasty. For the main dish I opted for the lamb shank. Again this was a sizeable portion and the meat fell off the bone beautifully. The sauce was probably a little overpowering but the vegetables were tasty and the dish was presented well. The panna cotta desert was fine although I don’t recall seeing any desert wines on the menu which would have rounded things off nicely. For the price it was a really good meal and a well executed experience by the staff. It was lovely to have the chef come out at the end of the meal to check how things had been and he seemed genuinely receptive to feedback. I would have no hesitations about returning here but a bit more variety would encourage me sooner.

I went there for lunch & the food far exceeded my expectations. Unfortunately, the service wasn’t that great (but I guess it was okay since it was a hot Wednesday during lunch time, perhaps waiters were a little sluggish). I ordered the platter for two with a side of potato wedges and a Greek salad. It was quiet a bit of food, I must admit, but I enjoyed every single bite. The general vibe of the place is really great, also. They had a DJ that played really good music! If you have time, I recommend giving this place a try (have a little patience because the service is really poor).

The restaurant is located inside the Four Seasons Hotel, and offers an unforgettable dining experience. From the moment we arrived, the attention to detail and service left a lasting impression on us. Upon parking, a friendly concierge chauffeured us up the hill to the restaurant in a go-cart, adding a touch of excitement to our arrival. The sheer size of the restaurant is impressive, providing ample seating options both indoors and outdoors. The outdoor seating offers a lovely view of the city, and we highly recommend visiting during sunset for a truly breathtaking sight. Our waitress was delightful, taking the time to explain the menu offerings and carefully noting our food allergies. Her patience and genuine warmth added to the overall enjoyment of the evening. the complementary bread was so delicious, we asked for seconds. The culinary experience at Flames exceeded our expectations. For starters I the salmon, which was incredibly flavorful and left me wanting more. The freshness and delicate balance of flavors made it a delightful appetizer. For my main course, I chose the risotto, and it did not disappoint. The rich and flavorful dish was a true delight to savor. The only slight disappointment came with the shared dessert that my significant other picked, it fell short of the exceptional standard set by the rest of our meal. Nevertheless, this minor setback did not overshadow the overall experience. We look forward to returning in the future.

Che Argentine Grill was an interesting experience. The decor gave you the impression that you may be in Argentina. The staff and waiters were friendly and efficient. They served us some of their fresh home made bread. It came with chimichurri condiment and was delicious. For the main course we chose 3 different meats between the three of us, with the intention of sharing. The meat was the biggest disappointment. No herbs, spices or marinades were used in the preparation. The meat was grilled and served as is. The only condiment was the chimichurri, again. It is the only time in over 40 years of dining in various restaurants where we were served ribs without a marinade. Really strange (boring), at least to our taste. Ultimately the 3 different meat cuts were almost identical in taste, with the spider steak marginally better than the others. Various side dishes were on the menu but were mostly unavailable for some reason we could not quite comprehend. Pairing the meal with a choice of wine proved to be impossible as no local wines were on offer. This may have been acceptable if the imported wines were more affordable. We ended up choosing the Sangria, which was one of the best we have had. I would think that expanding the wine list to include a local variety would boost sales substantially. People are creatures of habit after all. Desert was scrumptious. Definitely worth the kilojoules. The bill ended up being higher than any other establishment that we have frequented in years. R610.00 per person, including the gratuity. Worth it? Not really in our opinion, but glad to have tried it at least once.

Had a lovely lunch in the middle of the week at Mozambik Linksfield. It was the heart of winter but the sun was warm and it felt like a great day to have a meal outside. Their gardens are well kept and everything was clean. We choose a cozy spot outside, under an umbrella, with a bit of sun 🌞 to warm us up. The grilled Peri Peri prawns was delicious, fresh and succulent. Their coconut rice is unique and delicious...the perfect combo with the prawns. Current special is 9 prawns and a side for only R79. There is a huge playground for the kids as well, peacocks roam the establishment freely. Service was all round great, will definitely be back soon!

The High tea option did not meet my expectations. They had ordinary tea like 5 roses and roiboss which I do not drink. They did not have twinning at all. The sweet and savory snacks were plain and ordinary except the tiramiso and carrot cake were very nice. They preselected. We could not select. It was not worth the price. Service and venue were good.

The service is the best I've experienced by far! Thabisile, Kabelo & Jeffrey showed genuine friendliness whilst being highly professional. For starters I had the buratta and it's the best starter I've had. The pallete cleanser tasted delicious. For mains I had the duck breast which tasted good but the flavour was a bit underwhelming. The portions don't look generous but they're actually very filling! My appetite was fully satisfied. We appreciated the celebration plate we received for our anniversary and the rose petals on our table. The decor has a beautiful vintage theme which goes well with the classical & Jazz music. The Doormen at the hotel entrance are lovely people. Very friendly & professional. Level Four is highly recommended!

DELICIOUS!! A exquisite experience! As a local reviewer I look for something special something different with amazing food. This was a great experience! Food : - We had delicious bread 🍞 made by the grill house as a light snack. - Main meal, I decided to go with a chicken schnitzel which was really nice ! I found the flavour rich however it just didn’t feel big enough. - Potato wedges were great ! Dessert 🍨 was a chocolate brownie which was truly DELICIOUS! It felt so smooth and was sweet but also dark chocolate, a large compliment of flavours within the dish. Atmosphere : - Relaxing. - Classy and special. - Feels more formal. Management : (Manager on site) - Absolutely superb service from the waiter (Ben) Manager on duty making sure everything is done correctly. Overall it was a great experience! I have not had any dissatisfaction from this restaurant.

Zoo Lake is beautifully set in the heart of the out laying Johannessburg suburbs. It is very tranquil during the weekdays especially in the mid mornings. It's a great place to take a walk or a jog. On weekends it's very much busier with lots of people, young and old, going about thier activities, walking, picnicking, taking the four-legged children for an outing and enjoying the outdoors. There is a boathouse on the lake where one can rent boat rides, I will definitely do this next time I am there. There is a very large children's playground across the road kitted with every kind of jungle gym imaginable. Also on the grounds are may sporting facilities, notably several full size basketball courts. There are vendors selling ice-creams and snacks here and there. Zoo Lake is also a Heritage Site and is kept in very good condition by passionate folks. I am very fortunate to live close to Zoo Lake and I consider it a privilege to be a member of this remarkable suburb.

My 3 yo son loved it and spent hours in it. They sometimes have extra events. Needs kids friendly toilets/urinals and no soap was in the toilet! Hygiene as important as other parts of education. Suggestions: -Suggestion box wasn’t working too! Although I had nice discussions with two of ladies in different sections. -Add a books section with science books for kids to sit and read -A lab section with a microscope and some slides can be a great addition too -Can be nice if a science communicator to walk around and engage with kids.

If you're in the area, this should be a place to take in some historical truths. When walking through, not only can you recount the historical context of Apartheid, but one should be able to see its affects on natives of SA then and even now. Only then are we able to understand how truly devastating the systems of Apartheid IS. It's rather insightful and warrants actionable atonement. This is not meant for just another walk through another museum.
